How Many Teams Qualify for D-I and D-II Nationals from Each Age Group

The number of teams that qualify for Division I or Division II Nationals depends on a variety of factors. To see the number of bids available for each age group in D-I and D-II, click here to download the DQT "Draw" file that includes the computation of eligible bids.
Note: Since one team dropped out of the 13U D-I DQT, general rules would have required a reduction to only two 13U D-I bids since only 17 team participated in the 13U DQT in D-I and D-II. However, the Potomac Valley AAU Executive Committee received approval from National to retain its three 13U Division I bids. Therefore, the attached schedule is correct.

The 2009 Potomac Valley AAU Girls’ Basketball District Qualifying Tournaments ("DQTs") were held from April 18, 2009 to May 17, 2009. Chart for Determining Seeds For Medal Round Play

Match-ups for the Medal Round Games are based upon where teams place in their respective pools during pool play. Any ties in pool play standings are broken based upon the following hierarchy:
- Head-to-head results
- Most "Points" -- based upon point difference in game scores, but with a +/- 13 point maximum per game.
Click here to see all pool play standings. The online standings automaticaly compute the +/-13 points and apply the applicable tie-breaker rules in determining the listing of places in the standings.

In addition to being a great resource for schedules, scores and standings, the Potomac Valley AAU Girls’ Basketball website includes other cool features that make it easy to follow your current team -- this year and from last year.
This week, the folllowing two website functions are being featured:
- Club pages. If you go to a club page, there’s a link to all the teams entered in the tournament. Click here to see the Classics’ Club homepage.
- Team pages. Teams that played in the 2008 DQTs have carryover data to this year. For instance, click here to see Mike Baker’s Flames’ 12U team and see the links to their 2008 DQT results.
Draws for District Tournaments Completed
Last Updated: April 15, 2009 for Changes to 8U and 9U Pools
The Potomac Valley AAU District Qualifying Tournaments ("DQTs") will be contested over a five weekend period beginning April 18-19 and ending May 15-17. Teams will be competing for bids to AAU Girls’ Basketball Division I and Division II National Championships.
The "draw" has been completed and 107 teams are competing in the 2009 DQTs for the 8U through 16U age groups. Click here to download the file (Revised April 15 for changes to 8U and 9U pools) with the following information:
- List of teams in each pool in each age group for both Division I and Division II
- Computation of number of available bids for D-I and D-II Nationals by age group
This website will be the source for all schedules, standings, game scores and other information regarding the 2009 Potomac Valley DQTs. Check back frequently for updates.
Potomac Valley DQT Rules of Play; Rules Sheet Now Available

Generally, the rules of play for AAU Girls’ Basketball follows the NCAA Women’s Basketball rules, as adjusted by provisions in the current year’s AAU Girls’ Basketball Handbook. The Potomac Valley District Qualifying Tournaments ("DQTs") follows these rules.
To assist players, coaches, fans and officials to know and understand all the unique aspects of rules for the DQTs, the Potomac Valley AAU Girls’ Basketball Committee prepares a "DQT Rules Sheet" that summarizes the key rules and policies that apply for the DQTs. This rules sheet should be at the scorer’s table for every 2009 DQT game.
