Overview of District Championships
Last Updated: April 21, 2011

This article includes a few key points about the Potomac Valley District Qualifying Tournaments ("DQTs" or "Districts" or "District Championships").
Format
Each Grade has a separate DQT, with most Grades having separate Division I and Division II competitions.
Pool play. The first weekend is pool play in which records are kept and standings maintained for each pool. Tie-breakers are head-to-head competition, followed by point spread with a +/- 13 point maximum per game. Teams are then seeded by finish for bracket play purposes.
Bracket play (medal play). Bracket play is a modified single elimination format. Teams that lose in the semi-finals play for the bronze medal and the winners of the semi-finals play for the gold medal. In Division I, teams eliminated before the semi-finals will play games to determine places 5-8 (used for earing bids to Nationals).
Awards
Medals. The top 4 teams in each division of each grade earn medals: Gold, Silver, Bronze and Platnium.
Bids to Nationals. Teams earn bids to D-I, D-II and D-III Nationals based on their performance in the DQTs. Click here to see the rules for earning bids to Nationals at Districts (see page 7).
