The
2008 AAU Girls’ Basketball Handbook addresses eligibility issues for players in terms of competing in DQTs, SRTs and Nationals.
The following is word-for-word* from the 2008 AAU Girls’ Basketball Handbook in the Competiton Rules section on Page 10:
AAU Membership
-All participants in the AAU Girls’ Basketball program, at any level must be current members of the AAU. Every club must have an AAU Club Membership for the current year.
Player Participation
A player may participate in only one Division I National Championship, excluding the 8/u, 9/u, Open Division and the AAU Junior Olympic Games competition. She may play in both 8/u & 9/u or both 9/u & 10/u, plus playing in the Open Division does not preclude playing in any one other Division. [See rule change for 2009.]
A player may participate in only one age division in their District Qualifier. If a District has separate D-I & D-II Tournaments, they will be counted as separate divisions." (Emphasis added.)
Individual players will be allowed to play in Division I AND II National Championships, only if their TEAM does NOT qualify for Division I. Players will be allowed to play in both the D-I National Championship (by being picked up by a Qualifying team) & the D-II National Championship (either by being picked up by another NON-D-I Qualifying team or with their original NON- Qualifying team).
A player whose team has qualified for a Division I National Championship may not be added to another qualifying team’s roster unless her original team does not enter the National Championship for which they qualified. Likewise, individual players will be allowed to play in Division II AND D-III National Championships, only if their TEAM does NOT qualify for Division II. Players will be allowed to play in both the D-II National Championship (by being picked up by a Qualifying team) & the D-III National Championship (either by being picked up by another NON-D-II Qualifying team or with their original NON- Qualifying team).
A player whose team has qualified for a Division I National Championship may not be added to another qualifying team’s roster unless her original team does not enter the National Championship for which they qualified.
All players shall be eligible to play in the appropriate Grade Based Events regardless of their participation in an Age Based National Championship, D-I, or D-II.
