Review of Prior Business Items
Mr. Stadnik reminded attendees that proposals for any changes to the AAU National Girls Handbook should be submitted by e-mail to Jody Patrick and he by August 1, 2008. he stated that we had to submit all proposals to AAU National by August 26th and that we would compile, review and vote on these at the August GBB Committee meeting which would be August 20th.

Also, Mr. Stadnik reminded attendees to review the PV AAU DQT checklist and rules summary sheet, and provide any suggestions or recommendations to Jody and he by September 1st for review at the September or October GBB Committee meetings.  (One topic previously mentioned was to have a consistent team/player check–in process for all age groups.)

Mr. Stadnik also reiterated that a topic for future discussion is to get the heads of all officiating organizations used by DQT hosts next year together in advance to discuss rules and expectations to try and make sure they inform their officials ahead of time.

One open item previously raised by Ed Knox of WFBC Mustangs was an explanation of the 14U D1 team disqualification in the 2008 DQT and the process used. This item could not be addressed at this meeting since the affected club/team was still working through an appeal process with AAU.

New Business
Colonel Armstrong reiterated the need for all AAU club contacts to review their membership listing through the AAU Access Login and also request listings from the PV AAU Registrar of players who may have been registered with expired club codes or with no club codes that may not show up on the listings.  It was noted it is important for club contacts to review their member listings to ensure all of their members are accounted for. This can affect voting rights and also liability coverage matters if an athlete or non-athlete is not properly registered.

Phil Holloway led a discussion on several topics including AAU’s experiment with the Division 3 events this year and also discussed the challenges facing attendance at AAU national events due to economic considerations wrt travel costs ($4 gasoline) and the tournament format and locations being used.  He mentioned that AAU was looking at a format to try and reduce the tournament time to 5 days from 7-9 days and assess how to increase participation of teams from the western states.  He also noted that next year AAU Girls Basketball will require on-line registration for DQTs as they did for the boys this year.

Issues discussed by the WFBC representative are not included in these minutes as they were outside the scope of the PV AAU GBB Committee’s consideration and many present encouraged Mr Cox to pursue the WFBC ideas through the Virginia AAU and VA AAU GBB.

Meeting Adjourned

Mr. McDermott thereby moved to adjourn the meeting, and it was seconded by Mr. King.  The motion was approved unanimously.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 pm.

NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, AUGUST 20, 2008, Falls Church HS (likely), 730pm – focus will be in National Handbook proposals!!!
