AAU National Board of Review Upholds Disqualification of a Fairfax Stars 14-Under Team from 2008 DQT
Ruling is Final; All Appeals Exhausted
Background. During the 2008 Potomac Valley District Qualifying Tournament (“DQT”) season in May 2008, the Potomac Valley Girls’ Basketball Committee (“PV GBC”) investigated a complaint asserting that one of two Fairfax Stars 14-Under Division I teams was competing in the DQT with more out of district players than allowed by rule.

Initial findings. After completing an exhaustive investigation, the PV GBC concluded that the Fairfax Stars team did violate AAU rules by competing with more that the maximum three out of district players allowed by rule. All games played by the Fairfax Stars team in question were forfeited and the team was disqualified from the DQT.

After being disqualified, the Fairfax Stars, on behalf of its disqualified 14-Under team, exercised its appeal rights with the AAU National Board of Review.

Appeal denied. On September 10, the AAU National Board of Review upheld the conclusions of the PV GBC in its disqualification of the Fairfax Stars 14-Under team from the 2008 DQT, finding,
The Stars have not shown on appeal that the District Committee decision was improperly rendered. The appeal is therefore dismissed, and the Potomac Valley AAU Girls’ Basketball Committee’s decision is sustained.
The Fairfax Stars failed to file an appeal to the AAU National Board of Appeals within the required 30 days of the September 10, 2008 decision of the National Board of Review.

Therefore, the disqualification of the Fairfax Stars 14-Under team from the 2008 Potomac Valley AAU DQT stands as determined by the PV AAU Girls’ Baketball Committee’s investigation.
