This section includes an overview of certain DQT rules, including:
. Rules of Play -- NCCA rules generally used
. Tournament format
. Some DQT specific rules of play
NCAA Rules Govern Tournament Play
The tournament play will be governed by the AAU 2008 National Tournament Format rules in the 2009 Girls Basketball Rule Book. NCAA women’s rules will be used except as amended by the AAU girls Basketball Handbook and PVAAU Handbook and Directory.
Game times as specified in the AAU 2009 Girls Basketball rule book will be followed along with other game rules.
Tournament Format
The tournament play will be governed by the AAU 2009 Tournament Format rules and will typically be pool play followed by a single elimination seeded playoff medal round for all Age Divisions; single elimination medal round play is the new rule for AAU Nationals for 2009 and so the PV GBB DQTs are following the same approach.
Weekend #1 -- Pool Play
Teams play other teams in their pool and standings are kept with point differentials maintained, with a maximum +/- 13 point differential per game.
If there are 6 or fewer teams registering in an age group, one pool and a single elimination tournament will be run.
For multiple pool brackets, the following formats will be used:
. Division I. All teams will advance to the seeded single elimination playoff in the medal round.
. Division II. Only the top two teams from each pool will advance to the single elimination medal round
. 8U, 9U and Open division. For 8u, 9u and Open division, all teams will advance to the seeded playoff round.
Weekend #2 -- Medal Round
Team advancing out of pool play into the Medal Round are slotted into brackets and play each other in elimination format as detailed above.
Separate Division I and Division II Tournaments for Ages 10U-16U
For 10U thru the 16U age group, the PV AAU will offer a Division I (D-I) bracket and a Division II (D-II) bracket for each age group if there are more than 12 teams per age group.
Minimum of Four Games
Each team is guaranteed a minimum of 4 games, with the exception of the 8U, 9U, and Open Divisions. The number of games in these three divisions is dependent upon the number of teams in those age groups.
Selected DQT Rules of Play
In General
