Fairfax Stars 10U Gold Team with Gold Medals and the National Championship Trophy
Day 8 -- Fairfax Stars are 10U National Champions; Win in Double OT The Fairfax Stars won the 10-Under Division I National Championship today with a 37-33 double overtime victory over the #1 seeded ISSA Lady Elite team from Indiana.
The Stars finished the tournament undefeated in both pool play and bracket play. Congratulations to the Stars’ players, Head Coach Bob McCormick and the rest of the coaching staff for bringing home the Potomac Valley’s first gold medal since 2006.

Day 7 -- Fairfax Stars Advance to Finals With Win Over ISSA Elite; Face ISSA Elite in Rematch on Sunday Championship Bracket. In the first of what will be at least two battles, the #2 Fairfax Stars defeated #1 ISSA Elite early Saturday afternoon 38-28. With the win, the Stars advance to Sunday’s final at 10:30 for a rematch with the ISSA Elite.
Coach Bob McCormick’s Stars’ team jumped all over ISSA Elite early in Saturday’s game. With overwhelming defense all over the floor, the Stars dominated the first half and lead 25-3 at halftime. ISSA Elite refused to roll over, outscoring the Stars 25-13 in the second half, but it was too little too late as the Stars got the evening off to prepare to Sunday morning’s championship game.
ISSA Elite earned its opportunity for a rematch in the championship game as they destroyed the Carolina All-Stars 55-20.
One win on Sunday by the Stars will earn them the gold medal. If ISSA Elite wins the 10:30 AM game, a playback, winner-take-all championship game will be at 3:00 PM on Sunday.
Day 6 -- Stars to Face ISSA Elite in Much Hyped Match-Up in Semi-Finals; Vogues Eliminated After Fifth 1-Point Game at Nationals Championship Bracket. The much-hyped, long anticipated match-up between the #1 seed IN-ISSA Elite and the #2 seed Fairfax Stars is set for Saturday at 1:30 PM, with the winner moving into the finals and the loser into the loser’s bracket for a shot to earn their way back to the finals.
The Stars defeated the Carolina All-Stars 44-35 to reach the semi-finals while ISSA Elite easily handled Indiana’s Finest 43-23. The AAU message board have been burning up for weeks about which team is the stronger 10-Under team, but the test will be held on the court on Saturday. It could be the first of three match-ups between the teams over the weekend.
Still lurking in the loser’s bracket is Indiana Elite Central, the only team that has given ISSA Elite any competiton in the tournament. Indiana Elite Central has also proven quite newsworthy as they were given a special exemption by AAU for two of their top players to participate in the 10U tourney after already having particpated at 11U Nationals; generally, a player may only play in one National Championship, but that restriction was waved for the two Indiana Elite Central players. The Elite Central play the Carolina All-Stars, just defeated by the Stars on Saturday at 9:00 AM.
Check back on Saturday for updates on the 10U action from Disney.
