15U D-I: MD Flames Bring Home Silver Medal from Kings Island; Stars Finish Fifth

Day 6 -- Flames Bring Home Silver Medal from Kings Island; Stars Finish Fifth
The Maryland Flames 15-Under team coached by Herb Krusen came up one game short of the national championship, but nevertheless will return home to Maryland with a silver medal from the 15-Under Division I National Championships held in Kings Island, Ohio over the last week.

The Flames dominated teams in pool play and throughout most of the bracket play as well.  However, in the final, they fell 68-54 to the Memphis Elite.  Congratulations to Coach Krusen and his Flames players for a job well done. 

The Fairfax Stars also put on an impressive performance, running off six consecutive victories before falling in the quarterfinals to take home a fifth place finish.  Congratulations to Coach Courtney Hall and her Fairfax Stars players.

Day 5 -- Flames Defeated Teams from Two Neighboring States to Advance to Finals on Tuesday; Stars Finish Fifth
With a 65-49 win on Monday night over their neighbors to the south, the James River Blaze, the Maryland Flames advanced to the 15U D-I championship game.  Earlier in the day, the Flames won their quarterfinal game 74-71 over their neighbors to the west, the WV Thunder; this was by far the Flames’ closest game of the tournament. 

The championship game is Tuesday at 1:30 PM vs. the Memphis Elite.

The Fairfax Stars lost their quarterfinal game 54-48 to Fencor.  The Stars go home with a 5th place finish. 

Day 4 -- Flames and Stars Go 2-0 to Advance to Quarterfinals
The MD Flames and Fairfax Stars both went 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 15U Championship Bracket.  Semifinal games are on Monday night, with the finals and bronze medal game on Tuesday. 

The Flames defeated the VA Basketball Association and the KS Belles, both by more than 20 points.  The Flames play the WV Thunder in Monday’s quarterfinal.

The Stars knocked off the NC Pacers and the TN Lady Dawgs by 28 and 14 points, respectively; they play Fencor in their quarterfinal match-up today. 

The James Lee Lady Razorbacks were eliminated in the first round of the Classic Bracket. 

Day 3 -- Stars and Flames Roll Undefeated into Championship Bracket Play
The Fairfax Stars (4-0) and the MD Flames (5-0) both rolled undefeated out of pool play and into Bracket Championship play on Saturday. 

The two #5 seeds are on opposite sides of the single elimination brackets.  The Stars go first today at 11:30 EDT, while the Flames play their opener at 1:00 EDT.  Both teams would play again on Sunday if they prevail in their first game. 

The James Lee Lady Razorbacks will compete in the Classic Brackets.  

Day 2 -- Flames and Stars Easily Remain Undefeated in Pool Play
The joint #5 seeds, MD Flames and the Fairfax Stars, continued their march through pool play on Friday as both teams remain undefeated. 

The Flames came up just short of triple digits in a 99-62 win and they followed that with a 86-47 victory.  Their record stands at 4-0 and they have one pool play game left on Saturday.

The Stars were equally impressive running their pool play record to 3-0 with a 64-45 win over the MI-Patriots.  They too have one pool play game remaining tomorrow. 

The James Lee Lady Razorbacks fell to 0-3 in pool play; they have two games remaining on Saturday.

Day 1 -- Three PV Teams Start Play Thursday in Kings Is., OH;  Flames and Stars Off to Dominating Starts
Three teams from the Potomac Valley District, the Maryland Flames, James Lee Razorbacks and Fairfax Stars, are entered in the 15-Under D-I National Championsips in Kings Island, OH. 

The Flames and the Stars, both #5 seeds, got off to dominating 2-0 starts on the first day of action on Thursday. 

In the first day of action, the Vogues and Classics both started off with big wins.   The Flames lost their first game and the Stars dropped two games the first day.  The Flames won their first game by 45 points and their second game by 35 points.  The Stars won their first two games by 27 and 16 points.

The Razorbacks dropped both their games on the first day of pool play. 

The top three teams from each pool will advance to a single-elimination Championship Bracket.  All other teams will play in the single-elimination Classic Bracket.
