12U D-I: Fairfax Stars Win Classic Championship

Day 7 -- Fairfax Stars Win Classic Championship
Classic Bracket. The Fairfax Stars claimed the 12-Under Division I Classic title today with a 63-55 victory over the Michigan Shock. The road to the Classic Championhip was a long one for the Stars. After losing their first game in the Classic Bracket, the Stars reeled off eigh straight wins to fight through the loser’s bracket to claim the championship.
Congratulations to Coach Mickey Frece and his Fairfax Stars team.
Championship Bracket. Only the Vogues made the Championship Bracket from the Potomac Valley and no PV teams placed in the Top 16.
The top dawgs in the 12U age group this year were from Georgia as the Georgia Ice and the defending champion Georgia Pistols Gold battled three times in two days. In the end, the Georgia Ice won the playback game 50-34 to claim the D-I title.
Day 6 -- Stars Avenge Loss to Ravens, Win 7th Straight Game to Advance to Classic Final
Classic Bracket. The Fairfax Stars won their seventh straight game in the Classic Loser’s Bracket today to advance to the Classic Finals.
The second victory of the day was all the sweeter as the Stars avenged their first round loss to the Baltimore Ravens, taking today’s tilt 42-38. The Stars then advanced to the Classic Bracket Finals with a 40-37 win over the Indy Wildcats Attack.
The Stars play in the Classic Finals on Friday at Noon vs. the Michigan Shock. The winner of that game will determine the Classic champion as no play-back game is scheduled.

Day 5 -- Stars Advance, But DreamMakers Eliminated In Classic Bracket
Classic Bracket. With neither team being able to afford another loss, the Fairfax Stars survived on Wednesday with two wins to stay alive in the Classic Bracket, but the DreamMakers lost their second game, thereby being eliminated.
The Stars recorded a 54-39 victory over the PAL Diamonds and then returned in the evening, cruising by the Lady Preds 66-44.
The DreamMakers started the day strong with a 42-32 win over the All Iowa Attack. However, in the nightcap, the Baltimore Ravens ran their Classic Bracket record vs. PV teams to 2-0 with a 68-47 win over the DreamMakers.
Day 4 -- No Top 16 Finishes for PV in 2008 as Vogues Eliminated; Stars and DreamMakers Still Alive in Classic Bracket
Championship Bracket. The Vogues’ run in the championship bracket came to an end on Tuesday when they fell to Crusader Basketball by the final score of 60-47.
The Vogues’ elimination means that that the Potomac Valley District will bring home no Top 16 finishes in this age group in 2008. Over the last three years, this age group of PV girls had seven Top 16 finishes: . 2005 (09U) - 7th and 9th . 2006 (10U) - 3rd and 5th . 2007 (11U) - 7th, 9th, 13th
Classic Bracket. Both the Fairfax Stars and the DreamMakers went 2-0 in the loser’s bracket of the Classic Bracket on Tuesday. The Stars won 65-47 over the Garner Flames and 45-37 over the LA Storm; they face PAL Diamonds at 1:30 on Wednesday. The DreamMakers started the day with a 68-56 victory over the J4 Pirates and then they prevailed 44-39 over the MA Comets; next up is the All Iowa Attack at noon on Wednesday.
Day 3 -- Vogues Go 1-1 and Drop to Loser’s Bracket; DreamMakers and Stars Both Go 1-1 and Are Still Alive in Classic Bracket Championship Bracket. The Vogues won their first game in the Championhip Winner’s Bracket over the MN Stars 51-34. The afternoon game proved to be much tougher as they fell to the #7 AK Mavericks 51-28. The Vogues play at 9:00 tomorrow in the loser’s bracket.
Classic Bracket. The Fairfax Stars won their first game today over the KS Players (no score posted). In their night game, the Stars fell to their neighbors to the north, the Baltimore Ravens, by the score of 48-40. To stay alive, the Stars must defeat the Garner Flames from NC early tomorrow afternoon.
The DreamMakers had two extrememly tight games today. They won their morning game 45-43 over the Norfolk X-Press, but then dropped their afternoon match-up to the Western PA Bruins 46-44. In a loser out game, the DreamMakers play the J4 Pirates, a team the defeated in pool play by 10 points, at 10:30 AM on Tuesday
Day 2 -- Big Surprises as Only Vogues Advance to Championship Bracket; DreamMakers Lose Tiebreaker by 1 and Stars Go 0-3 Pool play brought a couple of major surprises to two high seeds from the Potomac Valley as only the Vogues advanced to Championship play while the #5 Fairfax Stars and #9 DreamMakers will have to settle for the Classic Bracket.
Vogues. In a must win game, the #13 Vogues advanced to the Championship Bracket with a 43-41 win in the morning over #9 Illinois X-Citement, giving them a 2-1 record in pool play, good for 2nd place and a ticket to the championship bracket.
DreamMakers. Things were looking good for the DreamMakers as they went 2-0 with a morning win, but when they suffered a 43-34 loss to Fencor Green in the afternoon, they fell into a 3-way tie for first place with their 2-1 record. Unfortunately, for the ’Makers, they finished +8, good enough only for 3rd place in the pool and a heartbreaking 1 point out of the second place to the New Mexico Select, a team they had beaten in the morning by 7 points.
Fairfax Stars. The Potomac Valley champion and #5 seed Fairfax Stars went 0-3 in pool play and will compete in the Classic Bracket.
Games in the Championship and Classic brackets start tomorrow morning.
Day 1 -- PV Teams Go 2-2 in First Day of Pool Play The #9 seeded DreamMakers were the only PV team to get through the first day of pool play unscathed with a 55-45 win over the J4 Pirates from NC. The #13 Vogues split on the day win a morning 40-29 loss to Crusader Basketball Club and then rebounding in the evening with a 52-38 win over the MV Blazers Select.
The #5 Fairfax Stars lost their opener to Indiana’s Finest 55-46. Pool Play wraps up on Sunday.
