Potomac Valley Tops 2008 Results with Ten Top 16 Finishes at 2009 Division I Nationals

The Potomac Valley District’s girls’ basketball teams brought home ten Top 16 finishes at the 2009 Division I National Tournaments, including two medals and one National Champion.  This was one better than the nine Top 16 finishes from 2008. 

The Fairfax Stars defended its 2008 National championship by bringing home the 2009 11-Under national championship.  Click here to read more about their run to the title. 

The Maryland Flames 14-Under team finished third to bring home the bronze medal to the Potomac Valley. 

The Stars and the Flames both had three teams that finished in the Top 16; no other Potomac Valley club had more than one Top 16 finish.

MD United Lady Ballers Grab First Ever D-II Gold Medal for Potomac Valley; Six Teams Finish Top 16

The Potomac Valley District’s girls’ basketball teams brought home six Top 16 finishes at the 2009 Division II National Tournaments, including its first Division II national championship brought home by the 12-Under Maryland United Lady Ballers.  Click here to read more about their run to the title. 

The six Top 16 finishes was one better than 2008 and ties the Potomac Valley record for most Top 16 finishes at Division II Nationals in a year. 

The Maryland Flames had two teams that finished in the Top 16; no other Potomac Valley club had more than one Top 16 finish.

Fairfax Stars 11U Gold Team
With Their Gold Medals and National Championship Trophy

The Fairfax Stars defeated the Dayton Lady Hoopsters on Wednesday, July 1 by the final score of 46-42 to win the 2009 11-Under Division I National Championship.

Maryland United Lady Ballers Win Gold Medal at 12-Under Division II Nationals

Maryland United Lady Ballers
With Their Gold Medals and National Championship Trophy

The Maryland United Lady Ballers won the 12U Division-II AAU National Championship in Ft Myers, FL on Wednesday, July 8, 2009.  They defeated the Minnesota Stars 37-27 in the finals.  This National championship is the first ever Division II national championship for a team from the Potomac Valley.

2009 National Championships Continue with 12U and 15U D-II

With the recently completed 9U and 11U National Championships, the following Nationals take place this week:

  • 12U D-I in Kingsport, TN --Bracket Play now in progress; Flames advance to Championship Bracket’s Elite 8
  • 12U D-II in Fort Myers, FL -- Bracket Play now in progress
  • 15U D-II at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in FL -- No Potomac Valley teams are entered

Fairfax Stars Finish 11th at 9-Under Nationals in Monroe, LA

With the first, second and fourth place Potomac Valley DQT finishers at home, the Fairfax Stars led a group of three Potomac Valley teams to 9-Under Nationals at Monroe, LA from June 26 to July 1 in which 25 teams competed.  The Stars finished 11th.

Flames Advance to Elite 8 at 12U D-I Nationals

The Maryland Flames advanced to the  Elite 8 on Monday evening with at 48-40 win over the ISSA Elite Red team from Indiana.  The Fairfax Stars dropped their Sweet 16 matchup, losing 65-56 to the Magic-Blazers.

Earlier on Monday, the #4 Vogues were upset in their first round match-up, joining the Cardinal and the Mustangs in the consolation bracket.
