Flames Advance to Elite 8 at 12U D-I Nationals

Day 3 Late -- Flames Advance to Elite 8
The Maryland Flames advanced to the Elite 8 on Monday evening with at 48-40 win over the ISSA Elite Red team from Indiana. The Fairfax Stars dropped their Sweet 16 matchup, losing 65-56 to the Magic-Blazers.
Day 3 Early -- Flames and Stars Advance to Sweet 16; #4 Seed Vogues Upset in First Round
Of the five teams to advance to the Championship Bracket, only the Fairfax Stars and Maryland Flames won their first round match-up to advance to the Sweet 16. Both teams play their quarterfinal games on Tuesday morning.
The Flames advanced first with a 58-36 win in the morning and the Stars followed suit in the afternoon with a 59-48 win. The Cardinal was defeated by the #5 seeded Georgia Pistols and the Mustangs were ousted by first seeded ISSA Elite Red. The big surprise for the Potomac Valley was the upset of the #4 seeded Vogues, who fell 56-37 to the North Tartans from Minnesota.
Day 2 -- Five Potomac Valley Teams Make Championship Bracket
Potomac Valley teams are off to a great start at the 2009 12-Under Division I Nationals in Kingsport, TN with five PV teams qualifying for the Championship Bracket that starts today.
The PV had three seeds in the tournament: #4 Potomac Valley Vogues, #9 Fairfax Stars and #13 Maryland Flames. The Vogues and Stars went 3-0 to win their respective pools. The Flames, the Cardinal and the Mustangs finished second in their respective pools to also advance to the Championship Bracket. Team Sol went 1-2 and will compete in the Classic Bracket.
Bracket will play will take place Monday through Wednesday, with the quarterfinals and semifinals on Tuesday and the championship game on Wednesday.
